Role Summary
As a Junior Media Researcher, you will be at the forefront of investigating misinformation and disinformation trends across Africa, with a keen focus on Sudan. This role is perfect for a young journalist or researcher passionate about the information ecosystem and eager to make a significant impact in the fight against misinformation. Your responsibilities will include conducting in-depth research, writing comprehensive reports, and contributing to the development of strategies to combat misinformation across the continent
Key Responsibilities
Conduct detailed research to identify and analyze misinformation and disinformation trends in Africa, with a particular emphasis on Sudan
Collaborate with the research team to develop methodologies for investigating misinformation campaigns, sources, and the impact on public discourse
Write clear, concise, and factual reports and articles based on research findings, adhering to Beam Reports’ style guide
Assist in the creation and dissemination of fact-checking content that counters misinformation effectively
Participate in the development and execution of public opinion surveys to gauge the reach and impact of misinformation
Contribute to the creation of awareness campaigns aimed at educating the public on the importance of information verification
Stay updated with the latest trends, tools, and techniques in media research and misinformation analysis
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication, Political Science, or a related field
Demonstrated interest and experience in journalism, research, or a related area, with a focus on the information ecosystem and misinformation
Excellent research and writing skills, with the ability to present complex information in an accessible manner
Fluency in English is required; proficiency in any other African language is a significant plus
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Familiarity with digital research tools and platforms
Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team
Passion for media, information integrity, and the role of journalism in society
Location
This is a full-time position, in Kenya. The successful candidate must possess the right to work in the location in which they will be based. At this time most Beam Reports teams are working through hybrid office arrangements, combining remote at-home work with intermittent use of offices and/or co-working spaces
